Earl Grey Tea

Earl Grey is named after Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister in the 1830s, author of both the Reform Bill of 1832 and most famously, the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833.

But the true unknown hero to millions of passionate Earl Grey drinkers around the world, was one George Staunton, an East India Company botanist living in China, who is recorded as having written to his friend at Kew Gardens as long as ago as the 1790s, extolling the virtues of combining oils from the aromatic flowers of the bitter orange tree, with light bodied black teas.

Earl Grey tea was born; we name our unique blend in proud memory of George Staunton.
