Sri Lanka, although a tiny island, has a high degree of diversity in its geography and climate that continues to amaze us with its range of taste and aromatic nuances within its tea. Our Platinum Blend features a two carefully selected single origin black teas from two very different terroirs, that offer unique characters and flavours.
In 1840 the first tea estate was established under the supervision of The East India Company in the Nuwara Eliya region in the island’s centre, a landscape with blue sky and beautiful misty mountains as the background, tea estates on the slopes of the luscious hills, and water falls cascading. A region which still produces some of the finest Ceylon teas today. From the high altitudes of the Pedro Tea Estate in Nuwara Eliya, Orange Pekoe provides the bright and delicate floral notes.
From the Lumbini Tea Estate 100km away, on the edge of the southern Singharaja rainforest, the combination of temperature, weather and soil allow the natural characteristics of this rare platinum-tipped lowland tea to shine through, developing an exquisite black tea with complex notes of caramel and a sweetness unlike any other.
With decades of experience and a rare skill level, these teas are expertly blended by our Tea Master to produce a exceptional cup – elegant and nuanced whilst remaining robust and full of character.
