The 2012 Half Mohur Gold Proof Coin
The Mohur was the highest gold coin in a sophisticated hierarchy of a coinage system already established in India. It was first introduced by Sher Shah Suri, known locally as Sher Khan or The Lion King, during his rule of the Mughal Empire from 1540. The Mohur, meaning ‘seal’ or ‘symbol’ in Persian, became one of the most iconic symbols of wealth and prosperity of its time. Minted in a specific weight of gold called ‘Tola’, the One Mohur weighed exactly one Tola (11.66gms). Minted in the exact specification and featuring the same Lion and Palm Tree design of the original East India Company Mohur of 1835, the One Mohur remains the most prestigious coin in our collection.
A perfectly minted gold proof coin presented in a lockable wooden case with numbered certificate and complimentary booklet. The Half Mohur is strictly limited to just 2,500 pieces worldwide. A unique piece of history, the Half Mohur is the perfect way to gift a loved one whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or family heirloom to pass down to future generations .
