This light-bodied Staunton Earl Grey Green loose tea in a caddy combines the strong flavour of earl grey with delicate green tea. With bergamot and a hint of neroli oil to finish, this blend is the best of both worlds.

A delectable combination of all things orange, that brings together the elegant aromatic flavours of Neroli and Bergamot in our signature Earl Grey Tea with the citrusy, sweet notes of our Seville Orange Marmalade biscuits. Both lusciously fragrant, one would simply not be same without the other.

Meet the unsung hero of your delicious cup of tea. Prime Minister Charles Grey may get the name and the glory but it was George Staunton, a botanist in China with The East India Company who wrote to his friend at Kew Gardens in the 1790s about the magical effect of using aromatic orange flowers in light bodied black tea. We still use the neroli oil so enthusiastically described in his letters and blend it with bergamot to make The Staunton Earl Grey today. So George, this tea is in memory of you.

Flavour Profile

Earl Grey was first written about in the 19th Century by George Staunton, an East India Company botanist who witnessed the Chinese scenting their teas with bitter orange blossoms. Unfortunately unavailable in Britain at the time, it’s near cousin, Bergamot, made an acceptable replacement, and the course of history was changed. Today, we use the original blossom, Neroli, together with Bergamot to create our Staunton Earl Grey, the only blend which can truly be said to authentically contain the original Chinese recipe.
