Camellia sinensis, a small shrub originating from China, produces the leaves used in preparation of the second most consumed beverage worldwide after Water, Tea. First introduced by The Company to Britain as a gift to King Charles II in 1664, it took the court and fashionable society by storm and gave rise to the Afternoon Tea Party, an event where friends, family and peers would gather for Tea and Cakes. Consumption of Tea spread considerably after The Company popularised adding Sugar and a century after its inception into British High Society, the popular beverage accounted for 60% of all trade for The East India Company.
Each tea in our range is personally selected by The East India Company’s Tea Master ensuring only the finest quality teas, infusions and blends are available. A direct relationship with the tea estates enables The Company to stock some of the freshest black, green, white and oolong teas as they arrive in-store within 28-30 days of the tea leaves having been picked on the plantation.
