The 2022 Sovereign displays the crest at the top of the royal arms which features the St Edward’s Crown, worn by The Queen at her Coronation and now the centerpiece of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.

The 2022 Half Sovereign features the Unicorn of Scotland, believed to symbolise bravery, innocence and intelligence. Before the 1603 Act of Union the Scottish coat of arms featured two unicorns, but when James I became king of both Scotland and England, one unicorn was replaced by the English lion. The 2022 Quarter Sovereign contains the shield that sits at the heart of the coat of arms and displays the emblems of the different nations of the United Kingdom.
